NEWBIE GUIDE

Enter a world filled with magic and riches, a world of endless possibilities and adventure… Welcome to Ragnarok, an online fantasy world where you can be almost anything you choose to be. The fate of your Novice (your starting character) is entirely up to you! There are 20 exciting character jobs to choose from (plus more to come in Episode 10: Heritage). But you are not alone! There are thousands of other Ragnarok players online with their own goals and objectives. You can chat with other people, join parties and, if you're in trouble, there is almost always someone willing to help you out. Ragnarok Online is more than just a game. It's a close-knit community of different people from all over the Philippines.Take part in the battle for castles by joining a guild, show off by taming one of the numerous pets available using a taming device, or test your skill by trying to slay dreaded Boss Monsters such as Baphomet!

Your character represents YOU in the game. It must be noted that a character once created can't be changed. A whole new character would have to be created if you goof up with the first one. So choose your attributes wisely, keeping your end role and “build” in mind.Characters are created using a simple method of picking your character and then using a slider to adjust attributes.Apart from the usual (STR) Strength, (INT) Intelligence, and (DEX) Dexterity, you will find a couple of new ones called (VIT) Vitality and (LUK) Luck. Each attribute controls a different aspect of the character and is fully customizable from the start.Attributes: Choose Wisely!Name your newly created character (the system will tell you if the name you want has already been chosen) then choose the stats you want to increase on the hexagon vector diagram. Each time you increase a stat, another stat decreases. If you fully understand the effects of each stat, you could create a powerful and distinctive character for your job class.

Experience is required to increase the Base Levels and Job Levels of a character, which then allows a player to improve attributes and procure new skills. In Ragnarok, the fastest way to gain experience is through the slaying of monsters. Experience is given to each player based on the extent of damage done to the monster's HP (hit points or life). The player who does the most damage gains the most experience.Example: If a monster with 100 HP gives 100 experience points and your character did 65 damage to the monster, you will gain 65 experience points! When teaming up with other characters to attack a monster, a different experience system is applied.Example: A monster with 100 HP that gives 100 experience points is being attacked by two characters 'A' and 'B'. Character 'A' attacks first and does 50 damage to the monster, followed by character 'B' who also does 50 damage. Character 'A' will then gain 66.6 experience points, twice the amount of experience of character 'B', who gains 33.3 points. And if more than one player attacks the same monster, the total experience points the monster gives increases by 10% for every additional player.Example:• If a single player attacks a monster that gives 100 experience points, he will get 100 experience points.• If two players attack a monster that gives 100 experience points, 110 experience points will be given.• If three players attack a monster that gives 100 experience points, 120 experience points will be given.Share experience in a Party! You can create parties with other players using the 'Friend' button in the Basic Info window. The party leader, the person who formed the party, can choose either the 'Each take' setting or the 'Even share' setting for experience points.'Each Take' allows the normal experience point distribution without using special party experience point features.'Even Share' distributes the experience points evenly between party members, but all party members must be within 10 base levels of each other.Experience point distribution only applies to characters who are online as well as on the same map. Characters that die during battle won’t receive any experience.MVP SystemWhen a boss monster dies in a dungeon or on the field, the player who dealt the most damage will either receive an MVP item or bonus experience points. The person who becomes the MVP will have a special indication appear over their character and the MVP item will be added directly to the character's inventory (no need to pick it up). Again, if the player dies in battle this does not apply.

NOGHALTZ

The Thanatos Tower can be found in the northern part of Juno. Although there are no historical documents to support it, there are many legends and lore that tell of its origin. One is that before the great Millenium War, the gods have built the tower to demonstrate their power and greatness to the humans. Another is that the tower was constructed by demons to serve are their fortress in their battle to destroy humankind. But the most widely accepted legend is that it was built to commemorate the victory of the legendary arcane knight Thanatos over the demon king Satan Morroc. According to the lore, Satan Morroc wreaked havoc all over the world until Thanatos stepped up and fought him. They battled for 10 straight days, and in the end Thanatos reigned victorious. He sealed the defeated demon king in the southern desert of Rune-Midgard, hence the name of the city that sprawled above it: Morroc.
Hundreds of years have passed since then before Thanatos Tower was rediscovered by an expedition team from the Rekenber Corporation. It was in ruins when they first saw it, pillars and columns were broken down, walls were chipped and cracked. It was almost unrecognizable, it looked more like a pile of rocks rather than a man-made tower. Knowing that they might stumble upon ancient artifacts that can grant them great power, the Rekenber Corporation planned to reconstruct the tower to its former glory. They spent a lot of resources to conduct excavations and research, hoping that in doing so they might be able to extract the secrets of Thanatos Tower.
So far, the Rekenber Corporation has managed to restore the lower floors of the Thanatos Tower, making it available to the public for a fee, which they use to continue with their research and reconstruction projects. Recently however the excavation in the tower temporarily came to a halt. A huge earthquake shook the area, and at the same time a strange flash of lightning, which was bright enough to be seen all the way from Einbroch, struck the top of the tower. This disaster resulted in a lot of deaths, leaving only a handful of survivors. Some speculations say that the gods sent forth angels to punish the humans for tinkering with the tower, and others say it was demons that plundered the tower. Whatever the reasons, the Rekenber Corporation is still unfazed and is determined to continue their reconstruction of the Thanatos Tower.

LIGHTHALZEN

Five hundred years ago, Zenit Zerter Lighthal, one of the leading scientists at the time, founded the Lighthal Laboratory. The research facility is set on a remote valley in the Schwartzwald Republic . Later on, when the Rekenber Corporation gained ownership of the facility, they bought all the nearby villages and began construction of the great city known today as Lighthalzen. The city-state of Lighthalzen is divided into two districts, the residential district on the south side of the city and the commercial district on the north side. The residential district's main attraction is the world-renowned Rekenber Hotel, located in the center of the district. The commercial district contains an airship landing strip, the Lighthalzen Bank, various trading posts, and the Alchemist Guild House. More importantly, it houses the Rekenber Corporation Headquarters. The Rekenber Corporation is the biggest corporation in the Schwartzwald Republic . It is undeniably the driving force behind Lighthalzen, having great influence and responsibility over the city. The Corporation has spearheaded numerous researches and technological breakthroughs for years. These include the development of the Strahlenstein steam engine, which is being used for numerous tasks all throughout Schwartzwald, and the Airship, which has become a major form of interregional transportation in Midgard. But one of their most famous and controversial work is their research on the secrets of life, which resulted in the development of the Guardians – Midgard's first artificial life forms - said to be much stronger than any human being.

EINBROCH

The History of Einbroch
The Schwartzwald Republic 's scientific community has long been a source of pride for its citizens. Juno, the magnificent floating City of Wisdom , is a testament to the republic's achievements in science, as well as its research in ancient artifacts. Countless brilliant innovators and scholars fill the pages of Schwartzwald history, but perhaps the most revered of them is Strahlenstein, the leading advocate for the development of the steam engine. With his research, the minerals that fuel the engines were discovered and thus dawned Schwartzwald's Industrial AgeSoon, steam engines were mass produced and distributed all over the republic. Recognizing the growing demand for resources used in manufacturing and fueling the steam engines, many merchants seized the opportunity to invest their capital in Einbech, a small mining town located near an abundant mineral supply southwest of Juno. Their financial support gave rise to a boom in the mining industry and the small town of Einbech developed into a large city.Strahlenstein continued his research in steam engine technology and eventually devised a way to produce more powerful engines. The increased power output of these new engines made it possible to extract various metals and minerals that were previously impossible to mine. With this technology, people began investing their resources in a vacant piece of land near Einbech, building factories to refine minerals located there and manufacture a slew of new technological products. As more people moved to this area, an extensive railroad network was laid to meet the demands of the population. Eventually, this small community rapidly grew and was named the city of Einbroch.

AYOTHAYA

Ayothaya is a peaceful village located in a deep forest near the river. Many houses are built on stilts above the calm waters. At the north end of the village lies a golden shrine, adorned with precious jewels and guarded by grand statues. However, just nearby is an ancient ruin, and within its depths dwell monsters never before seen in Midgard.

Story

After the cities of Amatsu and Kunlun were discovered, the coffers of Rune-Midgard’s Treasury gained tremendously as the trickle of profit from foreign commerce grew into a torrent of zeny. Rune-Midgard’s wise and benevolent ruler, King Tristan III, was pleased. Recognizing the profit from exploration, King Tristan III decreed that whoever discovers more unknown lands would be richly rewarded. One adventurer heeded the king's proclamation and discovered a village. That village is Ayothaya. Ayothaya is linked via an ocean route to Amatsu and Kunlun and it was only a matter of time before it would be discovered by the adventurers of Rune-Midgard. There, the explorers found a society adhering to a religion which glorifies nature and stressed harmony with the earth and its people. The people of Midgard were first attracted to Ayothaya for its shrines of gold and emerald, but later found themselves charmed by the houses and structures built just above the calm waters. They were further awed by the craftsmanship of Ayothaya’s “floating markets”. These onboard boats sell various produce like fish and shrimps, and some of them even offer delicious culinary masterpieces of the land. The people of Ayothaya are devoutly religious people, believing in living peacefully with nature as well as their fellow men. It is no wonder that the Ayothayans found no trouble in accepting strangers and outside cultural influences. Many locals welcomed visitors from Rune-Midgard.
Yet, despite the seemingly peaceful and tranquil atmosphere of the village, there lies a dark brooding secret among its residents. A dreadful legend haunts Ayothaya, one describing the existence of a nearby ancient ruin. Here, a terrible man-eating beast is rumored to dwell. This legendary creature’s tale soon found its way among the adventurers of Rune-Midgard. Intrigued by the legend, they decide to explore the ruins and learn about the truth behind it once and for all…

LOUYANG

You’ve all experienced the different cultures of Amatsu and Kunlun, participated in the epic conclusion to Ran, Willow and Fei’s adventure, and explored the perils of Umbala and Niffleheim…Now comes the latest pRO episode, Louyang. Inspired by ancient China, Louyang now becomes a stage on which a new epic story will unfold. Explore the many new stuff that Louyang offers – the new novice quests, new headgear, new enhancements to your Ragnarok gameplay such as the Inn System, improved Kafra Storage and a whole lot more! Of course, we invite you to explore the new locales of Louyang and Jawaii, a new tropical party paradise!

Story After the Japanese themed Amatsu and the Taiwanese themed Kunlun comes the latest addition to the world of Midgard - Louyang, the Castle of the Dragon. Fashioned after ancient China, it now becomes the stage on which a chivalrous new tale will unfold.Far from the shores of Volsug, the brave adventurers discovered the land of Louyang. With its high mountains, vast fields, and the glorious Castle of the Dragon looming on the horizon, it wasn’t long before the adventurers were captivated by this foreign land’s mystique. Not only was the landscape spectacular, but the citizens were equally interesting. Here they discovered unique artworks, weapons, masterpieces, and products made by skilled native craftsmen; treasures not found in any other land. Rumors also speak of another kind of treasure, a treasure so vast that is was said to compare to the vaults of King Tristan III and those guarded by the Schwaltzwald RepublicHowever, unlike in Amatsu or Kunlun, foreigners weren’t welcome in Louyang. These people have a strong connection to their culture. The connection of the local folk was so strong that they ostracized outsiders in order to protect their way of life. The country of Louyang was headed by an Emperor who delegated the task of ruling the city’s regions to the federal government. The people of Louyang put their faith and loyalty in the Wu Lin.The Wu Lin is a martial arts school which acts as the unofficial government of Louyang. Since the Wu Lin does not collect taxes from the people nor compete with the rule of the Emperor, the federal government tolerates their existence. To the eyes of the common people, one’s fists are more powerful than any law and this belief strengthened Wu Lin’s influence and numbers.
The Legend of BailongLong before the Wu Lin was founded, Louyang was victim to frequent invasions by evil creatures. It was because of these vile monsters that a street knight named Bai Long used his strength and leadership to gather many of Louyang’s best warriors to form the Wu Lin. Bai Long’s leadership and the Wu Lin’s courageous efforts defeated the threat of the monster invasionIt was also through the valiant efforts of the Wu Lin that the city of Louyang prospered. Due to his abilities and bravery, Bai Long was made the leader of the people.Years passed and the glory of Bai Long’s youth faded. The peace enjoyed by Louyang slowly began to crumble. As Bai Long aged, many of the warrior schools began to fight with one another, each seeking to gain dominance over the others, and plotting to take Louyang from Bai Long. With dissention among the schools, monsters once again terrorize Louyang.Lamenting over the crumbling Wu Lin which was now fragmented by the selfishness and greed of the warring schools, Bai Long decided to open Louyang’s walls to the outsiders. So long as they were pure of heart and strong of will, Bai Long welcomed them into Louyang to help battle the fearsome monsters. The people welcomed these foreigners after recognizing the benefits of cultural exchange and foreign trade. They also needed these people to help fend off the creatures that constantly besieged them.
However, not all are pleased with Bai Long’s decision. In hushed tones, many of the warrior schools and families of old still plot against Bai Long. The story does not end here. It is merely a prelude of things to come. As a foreigner and an adventurer, it YOUR adventure. You alone can decide what fate has in store for you in this new, mystic land!
